This seminar will offer some sturdy basics about True Kung Fu practice. Everyone interested in feeling and practicing Chinese Martial Arts is welcome. Some topics will include discussion as well as practice on: What is Qigong and how does it relate to the martial arts? Why is Shaolin the most famous of all styles of martial arts? What are the four aspects of self defense for true martial arts?

Shaolin Linking Boxing

Shaolin Kung Fu starts with the formal training of the famous “Lien Bu Quan” or the Linking Fist. This beautiful but basic form shows many of the specialized movements of the system and lets the students taste the “flavor” or the Shaolin style. Besides the form, there will be a focus on attaining the kind of training one can practice solo or with a partner including, Threading Hands, Ba Shi (Stance Training), introduction to Long Arm basics and much more. This is a great way to attain some Shaolin skills and a basic form you can practice on your own.

TAIJI QIGONG FOR SENIORS
This short offers a compact Qigong regimen for all who might like to explore this fascinating blend of simple, traditional exercise and meditation. Taken from Taiji practice, this is a gem of calming, restorative movement. The movements are easy to learn and the complete exercise can be performed in about four minutes. Yet this regimen is subtle and profound and very appropriate to mature sensibilities. Comes with a FREE video of the entire practice with instruction and lecture by Howard Slatoff.

BAGUA: The Art of Change, Walking the Circle

This is the world famous but rarely taught martial art that many believe will be the "Taiji of the Twenty-first Century". It is a highly flexible and refined art and was based on the cornerstone text of Chinese culture: The Book of Changes, one of the world's oldest books, a document expounding the nature and harmonization of the changes in life. The core exercise of this exotic martial practice is known as "Circle Walking". Developed nearly two hundred years ago, it is a highly sophisticated approach to martial training. The simple act of walking in a circle is the basis of all advanced training in this style. This seminar will go into Reeling Silk Energy, High Medium and Low Changes, Front and Back Changes, Square Walking and all the elements needed for a firm foundation in the art of Bagua. This training, a combination of meditation, QiGong and martial arts, induces a state of mental receptivity and acuteness while exercising the body with a sophisticated and intriguing set of movements.

BLOSSOMS IN THE SPRING: A QiGong

Qigong has become very popular indeed. This Taoist routine, called "Blossoms in the Spring", is a beautiful and profound practice. You can perform it seated, lying down or standing. It requires no previous training. The movements are particularly graceful and soft with gentle rippling motions to encourage a dynamic movement of Qi through the body. A Taoist form of meditative movement, Blossoms can be interlaced with meditation practice in a perfect blend of quiescent and active. One of the most sensual and relaxing of introductory Qigong exercises.

Bagua Zhang: The Internal Palms

The art of Bagua Zhang (Eight Trigrams Palms) is an art based solely on change and its study. One of the most exotic and advanced martial practices, it starts with a number of special postures and movements modeled after Bagua's specific animals, the first four being: The Lion, Snake, Bear, Phoenix. These movements are linked to structures in the body such as some internal organs. The art itself is ingenious, created so that a thorough knowledge of these fundamental actions allows the student to advance to the core of the Bagua practice. In this first workshop the first four mother palms will be explored along with supplementary exercises of great import for future practice.

Dragon Moves: Intermediate Martial Exercises

The Dragon is the spirit creature of China and Chinese Martial Arts. Here is a group of very special movements imitating this wondrous beast and showing the versatility and power of Kung Fu training. These coiling and twisting movements are absolutely fundamental to the perfecting of martial, Tai chi or QiGong movement and in this unusual workshop you will learn a method of training that is at once practical for self defense and tremendously useful for raising the level of martial skills. Come and move like a Dragon riding the clouds. No prerequisite but some training in martial arts or QiGong helpful.

24 Beats is the basic set of the "Heaven Mountain" branch of Kung Fu. This form is one of the best solid introductions to the movements, principles and fundamentals of traditional Chinese Martial Arts. In just six weeks you will learn the essential strikes, kicks, sweeps and joint locks, as well as the entire form. While this first series focuses on the single person practice, this form can also be learned as a partner set. It is a true cornerstone to any further practice in the Chinese martial tradition..
